Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts informed the media that Clayton Kershaw is considering surgery on his back, leading many to believe that he could miss the rest of the year. This would obviously be a devastating blow to the Dodgers rotation but could lead them to pursue bigger targets on the trade market in the next two weeks. Chris Archer’s name has been floated around.
Archer is not eligible for free agency until 2020, so he would certainly come with a high price tag. The Dodgers have plenty in their farm system, which was rated to be a consensus top-5 system by many of the major baseball pundits.
In other news, it appears that Prince Fielder’s season may be over. Stefan Stevenson of the Star-Telegram reported that Fielder is headed to the DL because of a herniated disk in his neck.
This would be another blow to a Rangers team that has struggled of late. The Rangers have lost six of their last seven and are only four games up on the Astros at the moment.
